Super Mario is the main character of the popular video game franchise, which has been developed by Nintendo for over 30 years. Mario first appeared in 1981 on the Japanese game console, the Famicom, and has since become one of Nintendo’s most recognizable and successful characters. Mario’s story begins with his birth in a small town in Italy. His brother, Luigi, went to explore a nearby castle and was captured by a dragon. Mario set out to rescue him and defeated the dragon by jumping on its head. As a reward for saving his brother, Luigi turned into a magic power-up known as a Super Mushroom, which gave Mario temporary invincibility. This event inspired Mario to pursue treasures and challenges to become stronger. In Super Mario World (1990), Mario ventured through an expansive 3D world to save Princess Toadstool from the Koopa King Bowser. In 2002, Super Mario Sunshine was released for the Nintendo GameCube and introduced the idea of playing as Yoshi to the series. In 2007, Super Mario Galaxy was released for the Wii and introduced new galaxies where players could collect stars to progress.
